Haverigg Primary School

Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon Sarah and I along with Vic went over to Haverigg Primary School to do a transition assembly for the whole school followed by a lesson with year 6.  The idea is to help the year 6 pupils to move on to their next school.  We had a great time with the children both during the assembly and in the lesson.

Burlington School

This afternoon Sarah and I were at Burlington School for another transition assembly we were joined by Vic and Emily.  We did the same assembly as we had done at Coniston this morning except to finish we sang Be Happy then as the children left the hall we played Great Big God which resulted in the children staying and singing it.  Following the lesson we took the year 6 pupils off of a special lesson which we hope will help them as the move on to different schools in September.

Coniston Primary School

This morning Sarah and I went to Coniston Primary School with Vic to do the first of our transition assemblies followed by a lesson.  To start off we sang So Many Ways then we introduced a drama to the school about a family that were moving house.  There was lots of rushing around and pick up random objects as the children tried to get everything ready for the move, one of the children ran about shouting Don't Panic we're moving.... at the end the question was asked where are we going to and the parent said - don't know!  This linked into the Abraham story and about how he was told to move on and we linked that to moving on in school and in the case of the year 6 children moving to a new school.  We used the verse from Joshua 1:7  Be strong and very courageous. After the talk we then did a special lesson with the year 6 children which we hope will help them as they move on to secondary school.

St Peters

This morning Sarah and I went over to St Peters school for the assembly.  The theme was thankfulness,  so to start off we sang So Many Ways then we went on to display some pictures.  Sarah showed a picture of the girls and said that every day she thanks God for our two beautiful daughters.  I displayed some carrots, which triggered a laugh from the children but I said that although they are just carrots we should be thankful for all our food stuffs.  The next picture was a box of tissues, Sarah said that most of the time people are happy and enjoy life but there are times when we do feel sad and she reminded the children of our last assembly about being kind.  She also went on to say that it is during the sad times we should try to remember some of the good things in life which we can say thank you for and this will help us to turn from sad to happy.  After this she went through the whole school and asked each child what they were thankful for which was good as the children said all kinds of different things.  After this we sang I Love You and Sarah closed with a prayer.

Low Furness School

Today Sarah and I went into Low Furness School for the assembly.  The theme during this half term is kindness and as we have already done one assembly on kindness we decided to talk today about David and how he during his time as king showed kindness to those around him, because he had a special relationship with God.  We started with a song So Many Ways then I retold the story of Samuel following God's instructions on picking a new king.  Seven of David's brothers came before Samuel  and as he looked on the outside God looked on the inside and not one of them was suitable to be king.  David on the other hand had all the qualities God was looking for, he showed kindness and care to people as well as his fathers sheep, he trusted God, He loved God and he followed God.  Samuel anointed him as king even though he was a small boy.  Sarah explained that God looks at what we are like on the inside while all we can do is look on the outside of a person.  We should be like David in that we show kindness, love, care compassion for other people around us and when we do that we shine God's love out - cue for a song -Shine.  After the song we said a prayer.  Then as a special treat we did the Chicken Dance.

Croftlands Junior School

This morning Sarah and I went along to Croftlands Junior School for the assembly.  After singing Be Happy we talked about different emotions and our way into that was using the Mr Men finishing with - Mr Happy.  We displayed other pictures too like sad, excited, shy etc.  What we wanted to get over was we can help to change someone's emotions from say sad to happy.  I told the story of Jesus at a party and how the host only invite those people who he knew would invite him back for a party.  Jesus told him that next time he should invite all the poor people and those that don't or can't hold parties.  That way he will please them and God because of the kindness he has shown.  We continued with this idea as we talked to the children about ways they could turn a sad into a happy Sarah encouraged them to find someone today to do that for.  Then when we do we Shine from the inside out - cue song.  After the song we did a plug for holiday club then closed with a prayer.

Croftlands Infants School

This morning Sarah and I have been at Croftlands Infants School doing the assembly.  As I arrived at the school a little girl gave me such a big smile which made me feel really happy.  I mentioned this to the children as the assembly started and we said that lots of things make us happy - link to Be Happy song.  After the song we displayed the Mr Men pictures and I acted out the names of some of them and the children guessed who I was.  We then displayed a few pictures of people happy, sad, shy etc.  Sarah explained that we sometimes feel happy and sad or shy these are our emotions and people can help us to change them.  I then told a story of Jesus at a party which was full of rich and important people, Jesus asked the host why he had invited such people, the host's answer was because they can invite me to their parties.  Jesus asked him if next time he had a party why doesn't he invite all the poor people.  The man didn't understand why, Jesus reminded him that if he did do that and invited all the poor people they would not be able to invite him back to their parties as they would not be able to afford one but it would make them so happy because of the kindness he had shown them.  God would be very pleased too.  Sarah then encouraged the children to try and show kindness to others today it could be as simple as a smile.  When we do that she continued we Shine from the inside out - Cue song.  After the song we said a prayer.  Before the children left we talked about Holiday club at Croftlands.
