Coiston Primary School

This morning Sarah and I went to do the assembly at Coniston Primary School.  It was really lovely to see all the children and staff again after such a long time away.  Sarah started the assembly by asking the children about what animals they had then she asked them about their favourite Bible stories.  A number of children put their hands up and gave an answer which was great.  This led to Sarah talking about the stories Jesus told and on into the main story which was the Lost sheep or Cecil the Lost Sheep.  The children responded by laughing as I told them the story and displayed the pictures.  After the story Sarah explained what the story means for us today.  Which she linked in with Easter and explained just how much God loves us - cue song God's Love is Bigger than a Burger.  After the song I did a quick recap before finishing with a prayer.

Pennington School

This afternoon Sarah and I went to do the assembly at Pennington School.  It was great to see all the children again after such a long time.  Sarah started the assembly by asking the children what animals they liked so we had hands up for dogs, cats, rabbits, stick insects etc then she asked them what their favourite Bible story was we had a number of great answers from the children from both the New and Old Testaments.  She explained that the stories Jesus told in the New Testament are called parables and they are earthly stories with heavenly meanings.  She handed over to me and I told them the story of Cecil the lost sheep using visuals - some of which made the children laugh.  After the story Sarah explained the meaning behind the story and talked about just how much God loves us which linked in nicely to our song God's Love is Bigger than a Burger.  After the song I closed the assembly with a prayer.

Newton Primary School

This morning I went over to Newton Primary School to do the assembly.  It was great to see all the children and staff again after such a long time.  I started the assembly by asking who liked animals, loads of hands went up and then I asked which animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, etc  I then talked about stories and asked if the children had any favourite Bible stories we had a few hands up.  Linking these two ideas together I explained that I was going to tell a story that Jesus told about an animal.  I then did the Cecil the Sheep story, the children responded with laughing as the story moved on and as I showed the pictures.  After I explained what the story meant in that God is the shepherd and we are the sheep and God like the shepherd will come looking for us and bring us back home.  I pointed out that God's love is so huge and that it is bigger than anything - I linked in the story of Easter too as a demonstration of just how much God loves us.  With all the talk of God's huge love a song was waiting to be sung - God's Love is Bigger than a Burger.  After the song I said a prayer to finish.
