Leven Valley School

This morning we made our first visit of 2012 to Leven Valley School. We should have gone before half term but due to bad weather we moved it to today. The children were happy to see us as we hadn't seen them for a while. The assembly started with 'So Many Ways to Praise the Lord' then Sarah introduced the theme which was about communication. She asked the children how many ways can and do we communicate with each other. The children responded with over 13 different ways. I then sent Sarah a message using semaphore to which Sarah replied in Morse Code. Then I displayed on the screen some radom looking shapes and Sarah asked the children how God communicates with us and how we can communicate with him. The answers the children gave were the best we have heard - by prayers, through the bible and the Holy Spirit. I asked them to think about how God showed his love and referred to the shapes. Sarah reminded the children that last week it was Valenntines day when we sent cards to tell people how much we love them. I then set the displayed shapes moving and they started to form a cross. So I reminded the children that God showed his love for us through Jesus who died on a cross. Coming up to Easter as it is very soon I told the children that in school they would be probably be hearing a lot more about Jesus on the cross. We concluded with 'Shine' and a prayer and as we had a few minutes before lunch we sang 'The Chicken Dance'
