Low Furness School

This morning Sarah and I went to do the assembly at Low Furness School.  Our theme was Peter's denial.  We took with us one of the Lost Sheep stories called Peter and the Rooster which has pictures to it so as I told the story the pictures changed.  We started however with Sarah asking about brave people in the Bible and we got a number of different answers back - someone even mentioned Peter.  So I told the story of Brave Peter.  The story pointed out how brave Peter was unlike us chickens which weren't so brave - as the story went on Jesus during the last supper told Peter that he work deny him not once, or twice but three times - Brave Peter would have none of it but... Peter did when the going got tough Peter said three times he didn't know Jesus, just as Jesus said he would.  I did point out to the children that the story doesn't stop there and after Easter we would be back with the second part of it.  Sarah then explained that it is very hard sometimes to stand up for something when everyone else is against you.  She encouraged the children to be strong and to not give in to things.  She linked this to the song My Lighthouse because we do go through tough times and during those times we should look to Jesus to guide us - like a lighthouse.  After the song I closed with a prayer.
